Description

In the words of the Master himself:

"[...] after 3 years of Thraldom Tuor saw at last a chance of escape. He was come now almost to full stature, taller and swifter than any of the Easterlings; and being sent with other thralls on an errand of labour into the woods he turned suddenly on the guards and slew them with an axe, and fled into the hills."

Part 1 of a several panels piece on "The Song of Tuor and his coming to Gondolin" by J.R.R. Tolkien.

For references, I drew wooden chariots both as a hint towards the invasion that Middle Earth suffered much later from a cousin branch of these same Easterlings, the Infamous Balchoth.
Note: The Wikipedia entry for chariots emphasizes how it was "a chief vehicle to many ancient people" and the early stage of development of ME 1st Age must be propice for the use of such props.

Their axes are designed after early models of stone Axes.
I know... they don't look much like axes but between 2900 and 2400 bc in the corded ware culture (in central Europe, from which I loosely base these 'Orientals' in a gross geographical analogy to Albion) THAT was the sh%$!
You had to smash/hack rather than say hack/cut a portion of a tree to bring it down. Must have been tiresome labor.

In contrast, Dramborleg, Tuor's weapon, meaning Thudder-Sharp, (here in an original and totally non official) design inspired by the Atlantic Bronze Age Axe based weaponry (1300 - 700 bc, amazing how long it took just to figure out that it'd work better if you sharpened the tip you hack with!!).
By the name, one has to go for a two sided weapon, one side would cleave and blunt, the other slash and cut.

The animals pulling the vehicles are gone from the page as they must have fled in the beginning of the fight.

I left 1 hound as an echo of the famous moment of the Song where Tuor having befriended all the easterling hounds during his time with them escapes chase and probable capture from their part.

The Bg is rather flat and desolate to try to suggest the exhausted plains of Hithlum.

Pencils and Inks on paper.

I shall post it again without watermark when I submit either the next piece of a colored version of this one.

Next one shall have him standing on the cliff by the sea with the swans.

Hope you like it! :)
